Jardines del Turia with a Baby or Toddler: The Ultimate Stroller Guide
Share
If you're visiting Valencia with a baby or toddler and you only do one thing in the city, make it a walk through the Jardines del Turia. This is a 9-kilometre green park that runs straight through the heart of the city — flat, largely shaded, full of playgrounds, and completely car-free. It is, without question, the best stroller route in Valencia.
Here's everything you need to know to enjoy it with little ones in tow.
What Are the Jardines del Turia?
The Turia Gardens occupy the old riverbed of the Turia river, which was diverted south of the city after a catastrophic flood in 1957. Rather than building a motorway through the empty channel (as was originally planned), Valencians campaigned successfully to turn it into a public park — and the result is one of Europe's great urban green spaces.
The park stretches from the Bioparc in the west all the way to the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in the east — two of Valencia's biggest family attractions sitting at opposite ends of the same walkable green corridor.
Why It's Perfect for Strollers
The Turia Gardens are genuinely outstanding for pushchair users:
- Completely flat — the old riverbed has almost no elevation change
- Wide, smooth paths throughout
- No cars — it is entirely pedestrian and cyclist territory
- Shaded sections — mature trees line much of the route
- Multiple entry/exit points — you can join or leave at any bridge crossing
- Playgrounds every few hundred metres — at least 18 play areas along the route
For a parent pushing a stroller, it doesn't get much better than this.
The Best Section for Families with Babies
The full 9km route is achievable with a stroller, but if you're working around nap times and feeding schedules, the central section (Tramos 4–7) is ideal:
- Closest to major hotels and the old town
- Most densely planted with trees and shade
- Excellent access to cafés along the adjacent streets
- Multiple playgrounds for toddlers
Entry points via bridges: Puente de las Flores, Puente del Ángel Custodio, and Puente de Serranos are all easy to access from the city centre.
Playgrounds Along the Route
The Turia Gardens have some of Valencia's best playgrounds — and they're spread throughout the park so you'll naturally encounter them on any walk. A few highlights:
- Gulliver Park (Gulliver de Valencia) — the famous giant Gulliver sculpture that children can climb on. Located near the eastern end of the park, close to the Ciudad de las Artes. Free entry, enormous fun for toddlers.
- Multiple standard playgrounds — swings, slides, and climbing frames appear regularly along the route, most with shaded seating for parents
Gulliver Park alone is worth building a route around if you have a toddler aged 2+.
Combining the Turia with Other Attractions
One of the great things about the Jardines del Turia is that it connects Valencia's biggest family attractions in a single walk:
| Start Point | End Point | Highlights Along the Way |
|---|---|---|
| Bioparc | Ciudad de las Artes | Gulliver Park, playgrounds, cafés |
| City Centre | Bioparc | Old town bridges, shaded paths |
| City Centre | Ciudad de las Artes | Gulliver, science museum, aquarium |
You can walk from the city centre to the Ciudad de las Artes in around 45 minutes at a relaxed stroller pace — or less if you skip the playground stops (unlikely with a toddler).
Practical Tips for the Turia with a Baby
Bring water. There are drinking fountains along the route but they're not always easy to find. Pack more than you think you'll need, especially in summer.
Go in the morning or evening. The park can be hot and exposed in the middle of summer days. Before 11am or after 5pm are the sweet spots.
Use the bridges as checkpoints. Each bridge crossing has street access — so you can duck out for a café stop, a nappy change, or to catch a bus if your little one has had enough.
Lock your stroller at playgrounds. Most playground areas have railings or benches where you can leave the stroller while you take your toddler on the equipment.
Download the map. The Turia doesn't have a single central entrance and can be confusing to navigate the first time. A quick look at Google Maps before you start will help you identify which bridges to aim for.
Getting to the Turia Gardens
The park is accessible from almost anywhere in Valencia's city centre — most hotels are within a 5–10 minute walk of an entry point. The closest Metro stations:
- Túria (Line 1) — western section near Bioparc
- Aragón (Lines 5/7) — central section
- Àngel Guimerà (Lines 1/2/5/7) — western access
Don't Have a Stroller?
The Turia is significantly more enjoyable with a good stroller — 9km of paths are a lot to navigate with a baby in arms or a tired toddler on foot. If you haven't brought a pushchair from home, renting one in Valencia means you get a premium stroller delivered directly to your accommodation, ready to use from day one.
