Ciudad de las Ciencias with a Baby or Toddler: The One Thing to Sort Before You Go
The City of Arts and Sciences is one of Valencia's most iconic spots — and genuinely one of the best half-days you can spend with young children in Spain. The Oceanogràfic alone is worth the trip. But families visiting with babies and toddlers consistently run into the same problem.
There is no stroller rental at Ciudad de las Ciencias.
Not at the Oceanogràfic. Not at the Hemisfèric. Not at the Museu de les Ciències. If you arrive without a pram, you're on your own.
Here's how to plan your visit so the logistics don't get in the way of the experience.
What is Ciudad de las Ciencias — and is it good for young children?
Ciudad de las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences) is a vast cultural complex on the old Turia riverbed in Valencia. The buildings themselves are architectural landmarks — designed by Santiago Calatrava — and the complex includes:
- L'Oceanogràfic — Europe's largest aquarium. Sharks, rays, jellyfish, dolphins, beluga whales. Extraordinary for children of any age.
- Museu de les Ciències — Interactive science museum. Better for children 4+ but still navigable with younger ones.
- Hemisfèric — IMAX and planetarium. Less relevant for babies, but impressive regardless.
- L'Umbracle — An open-air garden walkway. Beautiful for a stroll.
For babies and toddlers, the Oceanogràfic is the main event. The tunnels, the tanks, the scale of it — it lands even for children who can barely talk. Plan around that and you'll have a great day.
Can you rent a stroller at Ciudad de las Ciencias?
No. Despite the size of the complex and the volume of families that visit, stroller rental is not available at any of the venues within Ciudad de las Ciencias. This surprises a lot of visitors — especially those used to larger international attractions where buggy hire is standard.
The complex is large. The Oceanogràfic alone takes 2–3 hours. Add walking between buildings and you're covering serious ground. Without a stroller, a toddler will need to be carried — which is a lot to ask of anyone on a warm Valencia afternoon.
The solution: book a stroller rental in advance
Baby Roller delivers strollers and baby equipment directly to hotels, holiday apartments, and rental properties across Valencia. Book before your trip, have it waiting when you arrive, and bring it with you to Ciudad de las Ciencias — fully sorted before you've even left the front door.
It's the difference between a relaxed family day and a stressful one.

Tips for visiting Ciudad de las Ciencias with a baby or toddler
Start with the Oceanogràfic. It's the best for young children and takes the most time. Don't leave it until the afternoon when energy is low.
Book tickets online. Queues at the door can be long. Online booking skips the line and often saves money.
The Mediterranean tunnel is unmissable. A long underwater walkway with sharks and rays overhead — even babies stop and stare. Go slowly through it.
Pack for the weather. The walk between buildings is exposed. Sun cream and a hat in summer, an extra layer in winter.
Feeding rooms and baby facilities. The Oceanogràfic has baby-friendly facilities inside. Worth knowing before you need it.
