Valencia Airport (Manises, IATA code VLC) is one of the easiest airports in Spain to navigate with young children. It's compact, well-signposted, and 8 km from the city centre. But there are a few practical decisions that make the arrival either smooth or stressful — depending on how you plan.

Here's what to know before you land.

First 30 minutes: what to expect

The airport is small enough that from plane to taxi rank takes 15–25 minutes, including baggage claim. That's if everything goes right.

If you gate-checked a stroller, it arrives at either the standard baggage carousel or at the "oversized baggage" area — signposted just past passport control. Ask ground staff before disembarking so you know where to look.

Getting from the airport to your accommodation

Four options, ranked by ease with a baby.

1. Taxi (easiest with a baby)

Official Valencia airport taxis wait at the marked taxi rank outside Arrivals. Fixed fare zones apply:

• To city centre (Ciutat Vella): approximately €22–€25
• To beach area (Malvarrosa/Cabanyal): approximately €25–€30
• To City of Arts area: approximately €22–€25

Key issue: car seats. By Spanish law, children under 135 cm need a car seat in a taxi. In practice, this is often not enforced, and standard taxis do not carry child seats.

Options:

• Bring your own car seat and use it in the taxi. Cabin-approved travel car seats are the easiest.
• Pre-book a taxi with a car seat. Companies like Cabify sometimes offer this in Valencia, but availability is inconsistent. Book 24h ahead if possible.
• Take the metro instead (see below) — no car seat needed.

2. Metro (cheap, stroller-friendly)

Line 3 or Line 5 connects the airport directly to central Valencia. Trains run every 10–15 minutes, journey to city centre is 25 minutes.

• Cost: €4.90 (single) to zone A. Under-10s ride free.
• Stroller access: fully accessible with lifts at every airport metro station.
• Downside: navigating with luggage + stroller + baby is doable but tiring. Best if you're travelling light or with just carry-on.

3. Rental car with car seat

If you're planning day trips outside Valencia (Albufera, Denia, Alicante), a rental car makes sense.

• All major agencies at VLC offer car seats for around €7–€12 per day.
• Book the car seat in advance — availability is limited, especially for infants under 9 kg.
• Rental agencies are inside the terminal, no shuttle needed.

4. Airport transfer service

Private transfer companies drop you at your accommodation with pre-booked car seats. Cost is €35–€50 for a family of 4 with one child seat.

• Pros: door-to-door, car seat included, driver waits if flight is delayed.
• Cons: needs booking 24–48h ahead.

Stroller strategy: bring, buy, or rent?

This depends on the length of your trip.

Short trip (under a week): renting locally makes sense. You don't check the stroller (no risk of damage), you don't carry it through transfers, and you get a premium model without buying one.

Medium trip (1–2 weeks): renting still often wins on cost + convenience.

Long trip (2+ weeks): renting is competitive if you get the long-stay discount tiers (typically 25% off at 14 days, 33% off at 21 days). Consider bringing your own if you have a lightweight travel model.

Very short stop or transit: renting a stroller for delivery to the airport arrivals area lets you skip the check-in process entirely for the return leg. Some families do this even for their own strollers — check it in, rent locally, save the wear on your gear.
